
At Least 15 Killed in Building Fire at Coaching Centre in India
LUCKNOW, India — June 22, 2026 — At least 15 people, most of them students, were killed and several others injured after a massive fire swept through a three-storey commercial building in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh state, on Monday, June 22, officials confirmed.
The fire broke out around 3:00 p.m. local time in the Purania locality of the Aliganj area. The building housed an animation coaching centre, a library, and a pet shop . The victims—mostly students aged 18 to 27 who had come for internships or work at the gaming studio—were trapped on the upper floors as smoke engulfed the structure .

Witnesses reported that some students jumped from the building in a desperate attempt to escape the flames and smoke . Officials confirmed at least 15 fatalities, with the death toll potentially rising. Several others were injured and taken to the trauma centre at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) . At least four individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident .
The fire started from the middle floor of the three-storey building and quickly spread. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who visited the site, stated that a high-level inquiry has been ordered and strict action would be taken against those found responsible . Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also cut short a visit to monitor rescue operations and announced compensation for the victims’ families .
